The Beautiful Hospice Nurse met this person when she still presented as a man. On a Friday evening, she was told she would have an admission on Saturday. The following report went as follows: you have an admission tomorrow and the patient is an alcoholic who has a long history of substance abuse. He is a nasty man who broke a lot of furniture and has burned all his bridges. He lives all alone in a trailer park. He is divorced and his adult children don’t want to be involved with his care. The person giving report mentioned that her father was an alcoholic and a nasty person. Here is the History and Physical and good luck.

The Beautiful Hospice Nurse met with the patient whose name was, Human being. His dog, named, faithful companion, was the only family member present. Faithful companion, a ragged long hair miniature dog had no judgement or opinion of his debilitated owner and offered more presence than anyone else related to him. Human being was drinking vodka and taking morphine during the visit. The concoction seemed to have no effect on Human’s pain. Human was a 49-year-old man with metastatic mouth cancer. The left side of his face was swollen to where it looked like half of a football sticking out.

Human being admitted to the Beautiful Hospice Nurse, that he wasn’t such a nice person. There was this severe sadness about Human Being but did not feel dark or angry. The Beautiful Hospice Nurse thought to herself, Human Beings real terminal disease is, alcoholism. The disease of alcoholism kept him from treatments that might have cured his cancer. Quite often, he was too drunk to show up for treatment and the program had to discharge him for, “non-compliance.” She was also very grateful that God had given her the gift of being able to see Human Being’s true self underneath his disease. In her heart, the Beautiful Hospice Nurse, did not want human being to die alone without someone loving him. It is time to tell Human Being’s story.
